The Comfort of the Storm. September 14, 2025
Sometimes, in life, terrible things happen. A good man is shot and killed, and there’s no good explanation for it.
I know some people are celebrating publicly, but most people are shocked and upset. And so am I.
Charlie Kirk was an Eagle. We need more Eagles. We need more people who see the storm as a challenge to be overcome, not something to hide from. Who see the insurmountable as conquerable, not something to accept.
So many people say, “Life is what it is.” But today, I say that this world is just one prayer away from revival, one moment away from the miraculous, one moment away from breakthrough. One person standing up to the darkness to see light break through.
The only way for darkness to win is to turn out the light. Light always conquers darkness.
Shine your light.
Look at life through the lens of God. Face your obstacles with the vision that is bigger, knowing that God is with you.
But that’s hard. Some people will see what happened this week as a reason to quit. But I hope we will take the path of the Eagle.
What does God say?
Psalm 32:10-11 In a desert land he found him, in a barren and howling waste.
He shielded him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of his eye,
11 like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them aloft.
12 The Lord alone led him; no foreign god was with him.
First of all, today I want you to know that you are the apple of His eye.
You’re in a wasteland, yes, he sees you. He knows where you are and the provision you have. He is giving you.
It says like an eagle stirs up its nest.
An eagle’s nest is 6-10 feet wide and 6-10 feet tall.
So, before the eagles lay their eggs, they make a soft lining inside the nest to make the young comfortable.
As the young eagles prepared to take flight, the mother eagle stirs up the nest by gently removing some of the cozy and comfortable materials. This encourages the eaglets to move closer to the edge of the nest.
The parents would bring food and hover over the young eagles, encouraging them to take their first flight. At first, the young eagles would fly just a few feet above the nest and then fall back down.
On their first flight, they often land in awkward places close to the ground. During these moments, the young eagles might feel alone, but the parents were always there to reach out, bring food, and guide them to the food.
Sometimes, during these challenging times, you might wonder why things are happening this way. But it’s during these moments that you realize that you’re actually in the middle of something incredible.
Just like Jesus can speak peace and stillness in the midst of a storm, you can receive healing and see the impossible if you have faith. You can’t see parted waters if you’re not backed up against a Red Sea, or you can’t see Jesus shut the mouth of lions unless you’re in a den of lions.
Just like you can’t walk on water without taking the risk of stepping out, you can’t overcome your challenges without taking the risk. Every situation in life has a risk, but you have a savior who watches over you and guides you every step of the way.
Remember verse 12: “The Lord alone led him; no foreign god was with him.” God didn’t need help or advice; he was all-powerful and all-knowing. He is our deliverer, our strength, and our redeemer.
But look at this:
Isaiah 40:28: “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.”
Isaiah 40:29: “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
Isaiah 40:30: “Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who wait in the Lord will renew their strength.”
Isaiah 40:31: “They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Verse 31: Hope or Wait?
How do we get His strength? “They who wait on the Lord will renew their strength…”
When I have hope in God, I feel like I can rise up on eagles’ wings…
The word “renew” actually means “exchange”: “They who wait on the Lord will exchange their strength.”
That’s what happens when you get into a car: you exchange the strength of your leg muscles for the power of the engine.
That’s what happens when you get into a jet plane: you exchange your weakness (because after all, you can’t fly!) for the power of those amazing jet engines.
That’s what Paul meant when he said, “For when I am weak, then am I strong (2 Corinthians 12:10).
You see, for most of what I do, I can’t do it…
But that’s why I exchange my strength… I don’t go in my strength, I go in His power… I give up my strength to gain His…
As long as I can handle it, I never get to see what He can do.
Sometimes, my strength is so far gone that there doesn’t seem to be anything left, and I need to exchange it…
When crows are bothering an eagle, an eagle just soars higher…
And sometimes, when the world is getting on my nerves and I need a rest instead of hiding, I need to soar.
I don’t think you heard me… instead of my couch, I need to soar…
Sometimes, an eagle can soar up to 5 hours without flapping their wings. Sometimes, they can cover as much as 100 miles without a single flap.
You see, sometimes, you’re looking for quiet and still for rest, but what if God is trying to teach you to rest in the storm…
The way of an eagle is during the storm: they catch the power of the storm and use it to climb higher… they use it to go higher.
Instead of hiding the face, they face it…
Mark 6:30 The apostles gathered around Jesus and told him all they had done and taught. 31 Then, because so many people were coming and going that they didn’t even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
So, Jesus and his followers hopped into a boat and headed to a secluded spot. But guess what? A bunch of people who saw them leaving recognized them and started running from all the towns, getting there way ahead of them.
When Jesus finally landed and saw a huge crowd, he felt a deep sense of compassion for them. They were like sheep without a shepherd, lost and alone. So, he decided to teach them a lot of things.
You know, Jesus told them to go to a secluded place, but that secluded place became the place of incredible miracles because they decided to give it up… to feed the 5,000!
Verse 35 is where they fed the 5,000…
Psalms 55:6
I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.
You see, doves hide from storms, but eagles soar above them.
Doves hide to rest, but eagles rest in the storm…
Eagles can ride the updrafts of a storm and fly high above it for hours, using almost no energy.
What if the very thing you’re afraid to face is the very thing that can lift you above the storm if you just face it?
What if God is teaching you to go higher so you can stand taller… and have a real impact on your family?
What made Charlie Kirk who he was… his stance in the storm…
There’s comfort in the storm…
